Recommended for healthy children aged 6 to 23 months of age – seniors over 65, healthy pregnant women, adults (including pregnant women) & children with following chronic health conditions:
\n\u2022 cardiac or pulmonary disorders (including bronchopulmonary dysplasia, cystic fibrosis, asthma)
\n\u2022 diabetes mellitus and other metabolic diseases
\n\u2022 cancer, immunodeficiency, immunosuppression (due to underlying disease and\/or therapy)
\n\u2022 renal disease
\n\u2022 anemia or hemoglobinopathy
\n\u2022 conditions that compromise the management of respiratory secretions and are associated with an increased risk of aspiration
\n\u2022 children and adolescents with conditions treated for long periods with acetylsalicylic acid.

Since the likelihood of febrile convulsions is greater in children aged 6 to 35 months, special care should be taken in weighing relative risks and benefits in this group. Fluviral is not recommended for infants < 6 months.<\/strong><\/p>\n

DESCRIPTION: FLUVIRAL\u00ae is a trivalent, split-virion influenza vaccine prepared from virus grown in the allantoic cavity of embryonated hens’ eggs. The virus is inactivated with ultraviolet light treatment followed by formaldehyde treatment, purified by centrifugation and disrupted with sodium deoxycholate. <\/strong>Suspension for Injection 15 \u03bcg influenza virus Hemagglutinin\/0.5 mL dose<\/strong><\/p>\n

The composition of FLUVIRAL\u00ae is established in agreement with the recommendations of the Canadian National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) and the World Health Organization (WHO). For the 2010-2011 season, each dose of 0.5 mL of FLUVIRAL\u00ae contains:
\n15 \u03bcg HA – A\/California\/7\/2009 (H1N1)-like strain (A\/California\/7\/2009 NYMC X-179A),
\n15 \u03bcg HA – A\/Perth\/16\/2009 (H3N2)-like strain (A\/Victoria\/210\/2009 NYMC X-187)
\n15 \u03bcg HA – B\/Brisbane\/60\/2008-like strain (B\/Brisbane\/60\/2008)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The vaccine is formulated with phosphate buffered saline composed of: sodium chloride (salt), potassium chloride, sodium phosphate dibasic heptahydrate, potassium phosphate monobasic and water for injection. Thimerosal (100\u03bcg\/mL) is added as a preservative. The vaccine also
\ncontains trace residual amounts of egg proteins, formaldehyde, sodium deoxycholate and sucrose. Antibiotics are not used in the manufacture of this vaccine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

FLUVIRAL\u00ae is supplied in 5 mL vials holding 10 x 0.5 mL doses (multi-dose vials).
\nFLUVIRAL\u00ae packaging does not contain latex.<\/strong><\/p>\n

CONTRAINDICATIONS:
\nKnown or suspected hypersensitivity to FLUVIRAL\u00ae, to thimerosal, or to any other ingredient in the formulation or component of the container.<\/strong><\/p>\n

SERIOUS WARNINGS & PRECAUTIONS:
\nSterile epinephrine hydrochloride solution 1:1000 should always be readily available in case of an acute anaphylactic reaction following administration of the vaccine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

ANALYSIS OF VACCINE INGREDIENTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n

MULTIPLE VIRUSES (heat-treated\/total of 45 micrograms) including 2009’s H1N1 sub-units –
\n15 \u03bcg HA – A\/California\/7\/2009 (H1N1)-like strain (A\/California\/7\/2009 NYMC X-179A),
\n15 \u03bcg HA – A\/Perth\/16\/2009 (H3N2)-like strain (A\/Victoria\/210\/2009 NYMC X-187),
\n15 \u03bcg HA – B\/Brisbane\/60\/2008-like strain (B\/Brisbane\/60\/2008).<\/strong><\/p>\n

THIMEROSAL(100\u03bcg\/mL) –\u00a0 50 micrograms of Thimerosal mercury per shot (0.5 microgram\/ 0.5 mL dose\u00a0 x 100\u03bcg\/mL). Based on EPA standards this constitutes a safe level for a 1100 pound adult.<\/strong><\/p>\n

FORMALDEHYDE – used as \u201ca preservative & disinfectant\u201d, binds to the proteins in your DNA, known to cause cancer, chronic bronchitis, eye irritation when exposed to the body\u2019s immune system.<\/strong><\/p>\n

POTASSIUM CHLORIDE – Used as part of a phosphate buffered saline in the shot. The majority of the potassium chloride produced is used for making fertilizer<\/a>, since the growth of many plants is limited by their potassium intake. As a chemical feedstock it is used for the manufacture of potassium hydroxide and potassium metal; and as a flux for the gas welding of aluminium. Hyperkalemia. May induce Cardiac arrest <\/a>(especially in renal impairment or if administered too rapidly). May cause pain and thrombophlebitis if administered in high concentration into small veins in patients with cardiac disease, renal impairment, or acidosis:\u00a0 monitoring of acid-base balance, potassium levels, and ECG is recommended. Potassium chloride is also used as the third of a three-drug combination in lethal injection. Additionally, KCl (AN aqueous solution form of Potassium Chloride) is used, albeit rarely, in fetal intracardiac injections in second- and third-trimester induced abortions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

SODIUM PHOSPHATE DIBASIC HEPTAHYDRATE & POTASSIUM PHOSPHATE MONOBASIC: Both excipients (pharmacologically inactive substances, carriers for the active ingredients of a medication)) used as part of a phosphate buffered saline in the shot. May sequester calcium and cause calcium phosphate deposits in kidneys. Chronic ingestion or inhalation may induce systemic phosphorous poisoning. Liver damage, kidney damage, jaw\/tooth abnormalities, blood disorders & cardiovascular effects can result.<\/a> Phosphates are slowly and incompletely absorbed when ingested, and seldom result in systemic effects. Such effects, however, have occurred. Symptoms may include vomiting, lethargy, diarrhea, blood chemistry effects, heart disturbances, nausea, vomiting, stomach\/abdominal pain or bloating, dizziness, or headache <\/a>and central nervous system effects.<\/a> The toxicity of phosphates is because of their ability to sequester calcium.<\/strong><\/p>\n

SODIUM DEOXYCHOLATE: A detergent added to new generation of \u2018Split Vaccines\u2019 to modify the whole virus which causes cell death and symptoms such as burning, redness, and swelling. <\/a>It has been shown to weaken the blood-brain-barrier (BBB) and subsequently activate seizures.\u00a0 It demonstrates synergistic toxicity — notably with Amphotericin B, the antifungal listed above.
